Missions
ALIVE Missions:As a missionary movement led and involving young adults and students of the Seventh-day Adventist church, ALIVE expects and encourages its members to take an active role in the mission of the church. All ALIVE members are expected to live as missionaries in every sphere of duty and adopt an evangelistic lifestyle. Furthermore, they participate in short and long term missions intended to impact secular universities and other neglected mission fields across Africa. Some of the missions undertaken by ALIVE broadly fall into two categories:a) Campus MissionsSecular university campuses bring together some of the brightest minds not just from a particular country, but from across the continent, no doubt destined to be the next great men and women of the world. If they are ministered to and converted in their student years, they have the potential to impact the world. Seventh-day Adventist students attending these institutions of higher learning have a wonderful opportunity to influence the leaders of tomorrow. As such, ALIVE campus missions seek to achieve two goals: i) to revive Seventh-day Adventist students and train them for effective campus ministry and ii) to actively carry out evangelistic work on secular university campuses across Africa. b) Frontline MissionsFrontline missions take ALIVE missionaries to neglected areas for meaningful evangelistic and community outreach. Frontline missions target areas un-entered by Adventism, areas recovering from the effects of war, and other areas with vulnerable human populations. Frontline missions may be either short-term (2 to 3 weeks) or long-term (1 to 2 years) and are planned by local ALIVE chapters with the support of the ALIVE executive. Frontline missions engage missionaries in activities such as public evangelism, short health seminars, door-to-door Bible lessons, community service projects, counselling, literature evangelism, English lessons, basic entrepreneurship programs, medical outreach, and food and clothing donation projects.Join us!Application form for Summer 2011 missions must be received by April 30, 2011. Note that there is a participation fee of $100 for each mission trip. Additionally, each missionary is responsible for his/her airfare and any required visa fees. For a roundtrip ticket and visa, you should raise about $2600. Please note that ALIVE will assume no responsibility for individuals who are unable to meet fundraising requirements. However, ALIVE will provide guidance and assistance where possible.2011 MissionsALIVE Ghana-Missionary Training/ALIVE Ghana Mission Evangelism ProjectJune 8-15, June 15-July 15ALIVE Kenya- Kenya Conference 2011June 16-June 26ZiMPACT - consists of a large conference for young people in Bulawayo and a rural mission in the villages of the Western province. The rural mission involves door-to-door daily Bible studies, children's programs, evanglistic crusades and health programs.This mission seeks to inspire young people to be active in evangelism, train and involve 50 missionaries, and bring the gospel to 4 different areas unreached by the unique Adventist message. ZIMPACT is in collaboration with ECYC and IMPACT-Zimbabwe. Some more detail: YOUTH CONFERENCE This Year Also (Luke 13:6-9)Main Speaker: Samuel Koranteng-Pipim, Ph.D.June 30, 2011 July 3, 2011Bulawayo, ZimbabweRURAL MISSION Pass Me NotJuly 3, 2011 July 20, 2011Western ZimbabweALIVE Ethiopia- Conference 2011July 27 - Aug. 6ALIVE-Nigeria - This will be a two week long youth evangelism training conference to inspire, train and mobilize Seventh-day Adventist students and young professionals for effective involvement in evangelism. The conference will consist of: a) Missionary training classes in such areas as leadership, hermeneutics, distinctive Adventist doctrines, excellence, missionary life and discipline, homiletics and evangelism. b) Evangelism practicums, for 3-4 hours each day, will give attendees experience in outreach and evangelism. The practicums will include such activities as health expos, door-to-door Bible studies, canvassing and preparation for an evangelistic crusade. Dates: September 2011 Past Missions:Rwanda 2010August 27-30: ALIVE-Rwanda with Thando Malambo in Kigali. Radical commitments were made for impacting their Universities and un-entered areas. Their first mission to Kabarole for an evangelistic series from Nov 20 to Dec 11, 2010 was planned.Ethiopia 2010August 6-15: Addis Ababa Ethiopia with Sebastien Braxton and STRIDE (Student Training and Resource Institute for Discipleship Evangelism) Missionaries. As a result of the conference in Ethiopia, many surrendered personal barriers in their spiritual life and committed themselves anew. Plans are underway for a youth evangelism-training centre in Addis Ababa.Liberia 2010June 27 to July 11, 2010: The ALIVE-Liberia Youth Conference was held in Gbarnga with Valmy Karemera, Thando Malambo and others. Under the theme, Yes, Lord some dedicated their entire life to full-time ministry, others donated the funds they had to further the gospel. Over 800 people attended the evening evangelistic series. The conference concluded with 28 baptisms and in depth planning for Youth evangelism projects. Ghana 2010June 15-July 15: ALIVE-Ghana, Thando Malambo. After intensive training (June 8-15), the mission took 80 graduates and young professionals to Bolga and Sakote, a territory heavily influenced by Islam, animalism and traditional African religions. 160 baptisms resulted.2010 Mission ReportsGhana 2009December 24-27: ALIVE Ghana retreat in Cape Coast with Thando Malambo, Pastor Juvenal Balisasa and Pastor Nana Namiko. The retreat mobilized ALIVE-Ghana, a movement of Ghanaian Seventh-day Adventist young professionals dedicated to the cause of Christ. Plans were launched for a missionary training program in 2010 to impact North Ghana.Rwanda 2009July 31 - August 1: ALIVE Rwanda Conference with Sebastien Braxton, Thando Malambo & J.B Kagabo. At the conference This Generation, a movement of Rwandan Seventh-day Adventist young people were mobilized and committed to spread the Gospel in their country. The conference led to a revival amongst the youth, resulting in a weekly bible study and an outreach program.Zambia 2009July 4-7: National student convention in Lusaka, led by Dr. Samuel Koranteng-Pipim 1000+ students trained. The convention was followed up by IMPACT (Inspired Missionaries Proclaiming the Advent of Christ Today!) outreach effort in Lusaka.July 8-26: Chipata rural mission. IMPACT and ALIVE missionaries led out in door-to-door evangelism, hospital visitations, and evangelism training (34 souls added to the church).

What are ALIVE Weekends?ALIVE Weekends are mini conferences organized by local churches and young people in collaboration with ALIVE. The conferences seek to bring students and young professionals from across North America together for training and inspiration. In collaboration with church members, ALIVE representatives will play a main role in church services through ministry of the word, evangelism, testimonies, and displaying of various promotional materials (videos, newsletters, bookmarks, ect.). By organizing and executing an ALIVE weekend conference in your local area, you will become actively involved in a movement that is impacting Africa. The ALIVE weekend conferences are flexible in start dates (year-round), and duration. Why do we have them?ALIVE Weekends allow young people all around North America to become actively involved in a movement that is transforming Africa. Hosting ALIVE weekends eliminates the stress of travel for students and working individuals who may not be able to participate in summer missions. The Weekends provide a way for young people to take part in mission work in their local areas. The ALIVE Weekends play a vital role in the visibility of ALIVE as a newer thriving Ministry targeting\the continent of Africa. The Weekends give local young people an opportunity to organize and execute an ALIVE event themselves, and through this process, ALIVE can groom a future generation of leaders to take the gospel to all the world.

Suitcases for Africa ALIVE believes that it is important to reach the physical needs of Africans as well as their spiritual needs. This is why we have tried to strategically integrate this concept into our mission structure by way of partnered medical missions and Suitcases for Africa. The concept is simple; an ALIVE member or supporter commits to build a suitcase for one of our missionaries to take with them (see upcoming mission schedule here). We suggest finding a suitcase at a donation center or thrift store such as Goodwill or Salvation Army. Then you pack it! You can include clothing of different sizes for different genders, hygiene products, books, and school supplies. You may collect quality items you think would be useful for young adult missionaries and/or the communities they minister to. The missionary will check your suitcase with their own and hand deliver the contents to a family or community in need. It is an incredible way to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need! For more information email ALIVE at africansalive_gmail.com

Adopt a Missionary One of the new and exciting ways you can get involved is through Adopt a Missionary. When you adopt a missionary you commit to supporting that missionary for one mission project through prayer and a financial donation. A gift of $500 sponsors a missionary for a three-week evangelistic series; a gift of $4000 sponsors a missionary for a three-week evangelistic series. A generous one-time donation of $2,500 or a monthly continuous donation of $50-200 will insure that one missionary will receive all the resources they need to complete a mission. Too much for your budget? You can also organize a team to support a missionary. Your team can each contribute one-time or on a continual basis. When you sign up to adopt a missionary, you will receive information in the mail about that missionary, what they will be accomplishing on their upcoming mission, and a photo. Volunteer ALIVE is always in need of dedicated young people who desire to hasten the return of Jesus Christ through their work. All volunteer opportunities are based in the United States and can be done from your home. Please read through the current volunteer openings below and prayerfully consider getting involved! If you are interested, please prepare a letter of intent that outlines which position you are applying for, your interest in the position, and any skills and experience relevant to the position. In addition, please prepare a brief statement of faith. It should outline your Adventist faith and how it is relevant to your desired involvement with ALIVE. This statement, while brief, should outline your spiritual journey and discuss your current spiritual disciplines (such as bible study, evangelism, church involvement, etc.) including current place of worship and membership. Volunteer Position Openings Secretary, Resources Department The resources department is looking for a dedicated, detail-oriented, and organized individual to support their work. Duties include but are not limited to assisting the Vice President of Resources in departmental tasks, scheduling department meetings, communicating with committee, taking minutes during meetings, and editing departmental documents.
